Workshop: Integrating psychedelic experiences

With increased interest in the use of psychedelics as a healing modality we are beginning to see shadow aspects to their psychotherapeutic benefit, one of the most common being the lack of integration of unconscious material that has emerged during a psychedelic experience. These situations can lead to confusion or even trauma.

Join us for a 6-week programme where we will explore a uniquely Jungian approach to integrating the experiences that these powerful substances can produce. While Jung was hesitant about the use of psychedelics, he devoted much of his life to understanding the psychic sphere in which they operate.

We will take a deep and practical dive into Jung’s 4-step alchemical approach to psychological transformation where you are invited to bring your own psychedelic (or visionary) experiences as the “prima materia” for integration and transformation. In addition we will explore this process through a 10 functions matrix derived from Jung’s theories of the Self that will steer us toward greater psychological wholeness and ultimately toward our individuation.

THE 6-WEEK WORKSHOP INCLUDES:

Live 90-minute workshop via Zoom each Saturday (17h00 London, 12h00 New York, 18h00 Johannesburg)

All workshops are recorded for later viewing for those unable to attend live. (Process work / applications can also be performed in one’s own time, privately)

Participation in a facilitated private Facebook page for the student community.

All learning material and recordings remain available to you for 12-months after the programme completes.

Johann Mynhardt is a facilitator, mentor and course creator at The Centre for Applied Jungian Studies. He first encountered Jung’s ideas in his early twenties while pursuing interests in comparative religion, philosophy and spirituality. After some early encounters with psychedelics and altered states of consciousness he signed up at the Centre for Applied Jungian Studies seeking a deeper understanding of these experiences and was invited to join the facilitation team in 2014.

He subsequently took initiation into Bwiti – a syncretistic mystical religion originated in West Africa and centred on the use of the psychoactive root-bark Iboga. He is also privileged to have worked with Kambo, Ayahuasca, Psilocybin, MDMA, Mescaline and San Pedro.

His current interest centres around the integration of psychedelic experiences using Jungian and depth-psychology approaches.

Anastasia Moroney has nearly a decade of experience working with psychedelics and integrating those experiences. Her journey began in 2015 with Ayahuasca, which enabled her to release generational trauma and conditioning while connecting more deeply with the inner realms.

After spending 18 transformative months in the Peruvian jungle working with the Shipibo tribe to lead Ayahuasca retreats, she recognised the essential importance of grounded inner work. This insight illuminated the need for balance between the symbolic realm and everyday life. Inspired by this understanding, Anastasia became a practitioner of Internal Family Systems, where she blends psychological and spiritual practices to support others on their path to soul embodiment. With a strong interest in esotericism and the multidimensionality of the self, she is dedicated to guiding individuals towards greater self-understanding and healing.

Byron Gaist studied Psychology and Counselling Psychology at undergraduate and postgraduate level in England in the 1990s and has also completed trainings in person-centred psychotherapy and guided imagery work. In 2009 he completed his PhD in Psychoanalytic Studies at the University of Essex, which focused on the relationship between Analytical Psychology, Orthodox Christianity, and the archetype of the Wounded Healer. His thesis was published as a book by the Orthodox Research Institute in 2010.

He has been a licensed practicing Counselling Psychologist and Psychotherapist for nearly three decades, and has worked in the areas of gerontology, family violence, addictions, and in general private practice with a diversity of clients. Currently he is the head of the Policy Department at the Cyprus National Addictions Authority, and continues to work with clients in private practice, both in person and online.

Byron has been facilitating the CAJS Jungian Book Club since 2022 on Facebook discussing key texts in Analytical Psychology, and in July 2023 joined the CAJS course facilitator team.
